The Young and the Restless has cast the role of Simone, a new singer soon headed to Genoa City. Real-life singer Shanica Knowles will take on the role as Y&R expands its blossoming music scene.
Soap Opera Digest reports the Miami, Florida, native has been cast as a talented performer whose career Devon (Bryton James) hopes to cultivate with his music business.
Knowles, who has appeared on Hannah Montana and Awkward, and opposite One Life to Live alum Corbin Blue (ex-Jeffrey King) in Jump In!, is scheduled to appear in several episodes, starting Friday, February 9.
While there was previous buzz that Knowles was related to a couple of other famous Knowles -- including a purported PR rep that reached out to spread the word -- Shanica Knowles is not, in fact, related to Beyoncé or Solange.
The article has been updated from its original posting to clarify that the singer asserts that she is not related to the other Knowles women.
